Summary:
Responsible for the safe transportation of the assigned vessel and for the safety of the cargo, vessel, crew and required to perform administrative and supervisory functions.
***This is a full time on call position. Must live in the greater Seattle area. ***
Pay: Starting at $56.00 per hour DOE
Essential Responsibilities:
- Stands wheelhouse watches underway.
- Direct crew in performance of drills.
- Determine the need for and assign lookouts as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies and regulations.
- Prepare, monitor, and update vessel work lists and maintenance schedules.
- Assign work projects for crew.
- Ensure all crewmen are performing their duties.
- Prepare material requisitions and monitor usage of supplies.
- Conduct inspections and monitor tug/barge maintenance activities.
- Prepare written reports per company and regulatory agency directives.
- Check and approve all purchases and work requests.
- Train mate and deckhand in the safe performance of their duties.
- Assist on barges as well as the Bunker Tanker.
Other Functions:
- Perform maintenance aboard as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- U.S. Coast Guard Mater's License 100GRT or above.
- Valid 1st Aid certificate.
- CPR/AED training.
- Complete HAZWOPER Tech training within 30 days of hire.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Possess a Tanker-man PIC (DL) Tank-ship/Barge endorsement or attain one within six months after date of hire.
- Ability to direct, evaluate, and correct performance of subordinates.
- Ability to fairly evaluate subordinates.
- Ability to learn and make application of safety awareness, injury prevention, and firefighting.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English over telephone and/or radio.
- Ability to get along with crew members in close quarters for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.
- Ability to work in all heights.
- Ability to think and respond quickly to emergency situations (oil spills, mechanical failures, etc.)
- Be self-motivated.
- Ability to maintain professional relations with customers.
- For the position in Seattle, must reside within 50 miles of Seattle.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Working Conditions:
- Ability to perform the functions of the job and possess the stamina to work long hours.Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform the job functions, lift and carry sixty (60) pounds, transit between tugs and barges, up and down ladders, bending and twisting during boat/barge tie up.
